The Mold Craft Story
More Than Five Decades of Offshore History
Mold Craft Fishing Products was founded in Pompano Beach, Florida by aerospace engineer Frank Johnson, who brought his manufacturing background to the tackle world in the early 1970s. In 1976 Johnson built the industry’s first automated injection-molding “Squid Machine,” and in 1977 a meeting with Captain Peter B. Wright in Cozumel led to the Wide Range — a soft-head lure design that would go on to set multiple Atlantic blue marlin line-class records. Today, models like the Wide Range and Super Chugger remain among the most recognized names in big-game trolling lures. Mold Craft products continue to be manufactured in Pompano Beach, Florida, where the company’s soft-head lure tradition began more than five decades ago.
